Hofburg - Vienna's Imperial Palace
Originally a medieval castle, the Hofburg was extended to a magnificent residence under the reign of the Habsburgs. The massive palace complex is home to the Vienna Riding School as well as the Vienna Boys Choir, who perform Sunday mass at the medieval chapel (except July and August).
The Spanish Riding School
The Spanish Riding School is the oldest riding school in the world where classic dressage is still practised. The famous Lipizzaner horses perform dressage to classical music in the Riding Hall of the Hofburg - the perfection of the riders and the subtle movements of the horses are extraordinary.
Vienna Opera House
A night at the Staatsoper is one of the most impressive events any visitor to Vienna can experience. It is one of the world's leading opera houses, known especially for performances of works by Wagner, Mozart, and Richard Strauss by the world renound Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
Stefansdom - St. Stephens Cathedral
St. Stephen's Cathedral defines the city centre and has been the heart of Vienna for centuries. Measuring almost 137m in height, for a long time this 13th century Gothic style cathedral was uncontested as highest building in Europe and offers a stunning views of the city.
Schoenbrunn Palace
The Schoenbrunn Palace with its surrounding buildings and the huge park is one of the most significant cultural monuments in Austria. Build to rival French Versailles, this palace served as a summer residence to the Habsburg rulers. Due to this historical importance, its beautiful location and its gardens this palace is one of the very top sights in Vienna. Mozart famously played his first concert here at the age of 6.
Schoenbrunn Zoo
The world's oldest and only baroque zoo is situated in the south-eastern part of the Habsburg summer palace. The historical buildings are restored by experts under the supervision of the conservation authorities, keeping of animals looked after while simultaneously maintaining the baroque heritage.
Prater
Situated near the city centre, the Prater is Vienna's most popular attractions, and one can enjoy a terrific view over the city from the giant Ferris Wheel. The Prater has been used as a backdrop in films such as "The Third Man" and the James Bond film "A View to a Kill." and is an ideal place to relax after an exhausting day of sightseeing.

Directions: From the airport: take the shuttle bus to Westbahnhof (buy a ticket from the driver). From Südbahnhof: take tram 18 to Westbahnhof.
