The Vatican City is an independent state within the city of Rome. Situated on the Vatican Hill in the north-western part of Rome, this walled city-state is the sovereign territory of the Holy See and official residence of the the Pope. Here you can find St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, home to some of the most beautiful art in the world, including works by artists such as Botticelli, Bernini and Michelangelo.

Pantheon
Dedicated to all the gods of the Roman Empire, this odd shaped temple is fairly plain on the outside. But step inside and you are immediately overwhelmed. The interior is one giant dome, windowless, with an enormous oculus at the top through which light streams down to the floor below. It is absolutely stunning - its enormity and exquisite symmetry will leave you awe inspired, as though the opening in the ceiling leads to the heavens themselves.
Trevi Fountain
One of the world's most photographed monuments, Trevi Fountain was immortalised by the 1954 movie "Three Coins in a Fountain". Legend has it that if you throw a coin into the fountain over your left shoulder, you will one day return to the Eternal City.
Spanish Steps
This stairway of 138 steps slopes between the Piazza di Spagna at the base and Piazza Trinitā dei Monti and is a favorite meeting place both for tourists and locals.
