A great atmosphere is what you'll find in this very friendly city. The locals are happy and helpful, the food is delicious and the beer is delightful!

Munich has been the capital of Bavaria since 1503 and is home to many of Germany's burgeoning high-tech industries. It is probably better known for its annual beer festival, the Oktoberfest and its well known Marienplatz and Glockenspiel. If you can spend a few days exploring the city, it has loads to offer and a beer hall on every corner! Find the Viktualien Markets, long established food markets with the opportunity to sample some of the local culinary treats such as sausages, pretzels and pastries. If technology is more your buzz then you cannot leave without visiting the Deutsches Museum, home to one of the finest science and technology collections in the world.

Marienplatz and Glockenspiel clock
At the center of the city is the Marienplatz - a large open square where you can find the Old and the New Town Hall. The tower contains the famous Glockenspiel - every day at 11 a.m. (more frequestly in the summer for the benefit of the tourists) the clock chimes and re-enacts two stories from the 16th century.

Frauenkirche
The gothic Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) is the most famous building in the city center. The two spires, one of which you can go up for a fantastic view, are said to look like two beer steins with foam spilling over the top.

Viktualienmarkt
For a feast of colour, smells and tastes wander around the Viktualienmarkt. This area has been the main city marketplace for over two centuries and it is said you haven't seen Munich until you visit here. There's a beer garden to relax and watch the passing show.

Hofbräuhaus Beer Hall
The Hofbräuhaus is the most well known beer hall in Munich, and also operates the second largest tent at the Oktoberfest. Enjoy a typically Bavarian 'Weiss' Beer, followed by a hearty pork and dumplings meal. Or just enjoy your stein with a rather large pretzel.

The Englischer Garten
The Englischer Garten, close to the city centre, covers an area of 3.7 km² and is one of the world's largest urban public parks. Other notable parks include Hofgarten in the city centre, the Botanical Garden near Nymphenburg Palace, and Hirschgarten known for having the largest beergarden in town.

Nymphenburg Palace
Schloss Nymphenburg, previously the summer residence of the rulers of Bavaria, is surrounded by an impressive park and is considered to be one of Europe's most beautiful royal residences.

Olympic Centre
Munich hosted the 1972 summer Olympic Games. The Olympic Park (Olympiapark) is still used today and has become one of Munich's major tourist attractions. The design of the stadium was revolutionary, with sweeping canopies of acrylic glass stabilized by metal ropes.

Deutsches Museum
Located on an island in the river Isar west of the city. This is the biggest and best science and technology museum in the world. Many of the exhibits are hands-on making it not only educational but also fun.
