Belfry of Bruges
The belfry is a medieval bell tower in the historical center of Bruges, 83m high tower and housing 47 bells. Climb the 366 steps and your efforts will be rewarded with a breathtaking view over Bruges and its surrounding countryside.
Grote Markt
The Markt is Bruges' central square and market place and is one of the most attractive parts of the city. Overlooked by the belfry tower, the square is surrounded by colourful buildings, some of which were guild houses in the middle ages and have been converted into open-air restaurants. Sit back and enjoy Belgiun Frites (french fries), good beer and waffles.
Church of Our Lady
With its 122 metre-high spire towering over the city, it is the tallest structure in Bruges and one of the tallest brickwork towers in the world. The church is home to a marvellous collection of art, including the 'Madonna and Child, believed to be Michelangelo's only sculpture to have left Italy within his lifetime.
Basilica of the Holy Blood
The chapel of the Holy Blood is located on Burg Square. Constructed in the 12th century, it is home to a relic believed to contain blood washed from the body of Christ.
Groeninge Museum
This fine arts museum houses a comprehensive collection of the works of Flemish masters, the most famous of which is Jan Van Eyck, as well as works by a wide range of Renaissance and Baroque masters. The museum's masterpiece is 'The Madonna with Canon Joris van der Paele', painted by Van Eyck in 1436.
Brewery Halve Maan
Bruges is famous for its beers and this traditional brewery dates back to 1546. Guided tours are available if you wish to learn about the history and production process ... followed by a tasting.
Tintin Shop
Dedicated to the famous Belgian comic book character, this shop is the place to find memorabilia of the famous boy detective.
Minnewater
The Minnewater, also called the Lake of Love, is a tranquil lake surrounded by parkland and the source of the canals that run through Bruges' city centre. The bridge offers a pretty view of the city across the lake. Next to the lake is the Minnewater Park, where summer open air concerts regularly take place.
