Amsterdam is the official capital of the Netherlands and its financial and cultural centre. Set against a backdrop of scenic canals, gabled houses and cobblestone streets, Amsterdam has one of the largest historic city centres in Europe, dating largely from the 17th century. It's an excellent city to tour on foot or bicycle - walk along the canals or take a boat ride to best see the city's beautiful gabled houses. The city is also noted for many outstanding museums, including the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum, Rembrandt House Museum, and the Anne Frank House. The Van Gogh Museum houses the largest collection of Van Gogh's paintings and drawings in the world.

Amsterdam is also one of the coolest and most colourful cities in Europe - laid back, lots to do and see, many pubs, food from all over the world and friendly people.
